Smoke alarm laws in Queensland

QLD smoke alarm legislation has rolled out in stages since 2017, and the rules depend on your property type. New builds and homes that have undergone major renovations have needed compliant alarms since 2017. Homes being sold or leased have needed to meet the same standard since 1 January 2022. From 1 January 2027, every owner-occupied home in Queensland will need to meet that standard too, so plenty of homeowners still have work to do. Under current QLD smoke alarm requirements, alarms need to be photoelectric, interconnected so that one going off sets off every alarm in the home, and fitted in every bedroom, in hallways connecting bedrooms, and on every storey.
